Do have someone to take you home (A must: no taxi or driving)

Preparation for the Magnesium Citrate (No Aspirin)

 

1-       Have only clear liquids for ______ hours before the procedure. These are the liquids which one can see through when held to the light. Examples are:

-  Apple juice

-  White grape juice

-  White Cranberry juice

-  Tea, water, 7-up, Sprite, Ginger ale, Fresca, bouillon or strained chicken broth

-  You may also have lemon or lime flavored Jell-O, popsicles, or sorbet

Do not eat anything red. It is very important to drink as much liquids as possible. (Please avoid poppy, caraway, and sesame seeds for two day before the exam)

 

          Procedure for Magnesium Citrate ingestion:

-   Of the three 10oz bottles of Magnesium Citrate (lemon or lime only), You will take:

-   The first bottle at ________

-   The Second bottle at _______

-   The third bottle at ________

2-       You may drink clear liquids until two hours before your exam

3-       Vaseline lubricant applied around the anus and buttocks after each stool may be helpful during the preparation to prevent irritation

4-       If you are taking Coumadin, Plavix or any other blood thinner, inform the doctor.

5-       No iron pills for three days before your colonoscopy.

6-       You will need a ride home after the procedure due to the sedation. Patients are not allowed to take a taxi home by themselves.

 

IMPORTANT: NO ASPIRIN OR NSAIDS (ANTI-INFLAMATORY DRUGS) FOR 4 DAYS BEFORE THE EXAM, THEY ARE LISTED BELOW:

IBUPROFIN, MORTIN, ADVIL, ALEVE, EXCEDRIN, ETC. a partial list of such medicine will be provided
